Where it All Begins. Is this it?

Hi. I'm Christy. I'm a single mom (who shares custody) to an awesome almost 7 year-old, a full-time art and design teacher at a public high school in Brooklyn, a portrait painter, an occasional world traveller, a credit card points collecting nerd, and a design hobbyist.
About two years ago, I started to feel burnt out on teaching. Don't get me wrong- teaching an underserved high school community in Brooklyn is probably the most personally rewarding thing I've done. I'm grateful to have had the experience. My administration is extremely supportive of the arts, and I was lucky enough to be a founding member of the school, so I have a lot personally invested in the students and the community we serve. That said, being a veteran high school teacher is tough and there are many days when I ask myself... "Is this it?" I love teaching and don't want to leave my job, but I still need to feel like I'm growing- as a person, an educator, and an artist. And in the past two years I started to question if it was time to try something else.
A few months ago one of my friends suggested trying my hand at running my own interior decorating business. I've done freelance graphic design and branding before but never felt as passionate about it as interior design, mainly because in interior design I have the opportunity to be creative but also interact and get to know clients on a more personal level. I've loved designing spaces since I was a kid but never thought I could make a career out of it.
Well, next thing you know, I decided it was worth a shot, I put away those fears of failure and rejection, and here I am. It's been a great experience so far and I love the flexibility that freelancing allows. Even more, I love meeting my clients and making them feel better about the spaces in which the live. Hopefully I'll get a chance to work with you too!
